I've always used 25lb braid on my 2500 with a 15lb leader. But I see it's pretty common to go to 15lb braid instead? I'm fishin a 7'6 MH for speckled trout and some smaller drum. Would yall recommend dropping it 15?

You may be asking for trouble as the 15# braid may cut into itself on the spool and cause casting issues. Interested to see what the experts say.

We use 30# braid for stripers out here in California. You just never know what size striper OR what kinda/size fish you're gonna catch when fishin the salt.

I use 50lb for line & leader. Spoted sea trout or drum as well anything else in salt water aren't line shy.

Our stripers aren't for sure. We tie directly to the lures, no leader.

Saw I sometimes don't use a leader. I have a hook at the end of line a foot or 2 up I have a plastic bead and 1 or 1 1/2 oz sinker.
I use braid from 6 to 20 lbs on spinning reels and 10 to 50 lbs on bait casters
and nev er have had a problem with braid cutting itself.
I use nothing but 15lb Spider Wire with 30lb Big Game leader. Same types of fish. I’ve also caught 22” Permit, 42” Cobia, 20lb red snapper on the same rods. 15lb is plenty until you get into the oysters.
I use 4 to 20lb. braid with no problems. Mono does with stand abrasion better than braid on sharp jetty rocks. To this I cast braid with a mono leader.
