It's in the Southern California Sierras, Robert. Some of the biggest trees and best scenery anywhere!

Once you're up there the main fork of the Kings river is some great trout fishing if you're able to hike down to it ,that's the easy part.Hiking back up is another animal ,but you take hwy 180 to Kings Canyon National park ,lots of streams with trout ,and you don't have to pay on that hwy park entrance. If you stay on that road it turns into General Sherman road and loops to hwy 198 which in turn comes out of Sequoia National Park, Kaweah River. My old stomping grounds when I was young, but be careful on the Kings River very rocky, with shale, and rattle snakes. Beautiful majestic scenery,,,,

And you might think that you don't need to since you're in California, but pay attention and listen for banjos.

For reals , I remember we were following an unpaved road above the Kings river that all of a sudden ended with an old long cabin like building ,with deer antlers snakeskins and other bones that I couldn't recognize ,had a sign "last chance" it had a welcome sign on it.We went in and I guess it was like a stop off for hikers following the hiking trail ,pacific crest trail or somewhat to that effect.Older gentleman talked and talked to us for quite awhile but I've never forgotten how scary he looked! Told us to take a trail down to the river but don't stay late down there only bad things happen to people at nite!! Needless to say we were out of there,by 1or2pm !! But came home with beautiful fire engine red bellied fat rainbows!!

You know linegod, after work you can head out of Fresno on 180 to Pine Flat Dam, and fish below the dam on Kings river, lots of spots there and decent trout and Small mouth .Only 20-25 out of Fresno depending which side of the city your on ,good luck and tight lines,,,,
