Bass Fishing in the Rain

Is it worth it? There are some rain storms rolling in and I’m thinking about going. I’ve never fished in the rain before, but i want to try it out. Do you guys notice anything different about how the bass act when it’s raining?

dingerfingerringer: Here is my rule on fishing, Go as often as you can, stay as long each time as you can.

Now if you anticipate violent weather, like the possibility of a tornado, or severe lightning stikes, then stay home. But if it is just slow soaking rain, that adds oxygen to the lake or rivers and often washes insects into the water for bass to feed upon, so it could be the best fishing trip you've ever had.

Once, I was fishing just outside of West Galveston bay in San Luis Pass when a terrible thunderstorm caught me. I had to get under a Highway overpass and wait it out. There was an extra amount of lightening strikes in the area.

Some of my best trips have been in the rain both inshore and in the Gulf. However, as mentioned above, watch out for lightning and high winds.

One of my best fishing days on the ocean was when a rain squall blew through. Good luck

Before and after a rain produces but during heavy , large drops , the heavy spattering will tend to screw up their lateral senses !

Just a guess, but I suspect that terrestrial critters might wash in, attracting baitfish, resulting in prey for your intended catch. So, try around shoreline especially near steep banks or by the mouth of feeder streams.
I often bank fish, and don't mind gentle rain, unless it's really cold. I do about the same as usual.
Let us know how ya do if you decide to try wet fishing.

My experience is one of two things will happen bass fishing in the rain
1. It really turns em on.
2. It completely shuts em down

I have no idea why this is but I’ve experienced both

Give it a shot. Fish it till it ain’t fun anymore

I don’t think it makes much difference.
My way of thinking is that the fish are wet anyway so rain don’t make a difference to them.
Barometric pressure means more than rain or no rain.

Hard to say for sure. I’ve had good luck before a storm , due to atmospheric pressure drop, but I can’t speak about during the rain as I’ve never fished during the rain. Can’t say I would advise fishing from shore or a boat due to lightning possibility. My 2cents.

Robert makes a good point that I support. Rain produces surface water that is over saturates with oxygen and it tend to bring the fish closer to the surface. Live bait such as worms and crawlers are also washed into the water during continued rain. If there is a predominant wind blowing, fish the windward side of islands because the bait fish will be stacked up there. I have found rain fishing generally good but uncomfortable and of course always watch out for the lightening.
