Spoonplugs are about as failsafe as you can get. When properly used by an experienced spoonplugger, they will catch anything that swims. but like buck perry states you can't catch'em if your fishing where they ain't.
bleeding shinner rattle trap 1/2oz
There is no one go to lure for all , overtime u will develop specific lures that meet conditions or bait requirements for particular species !
A favorite lure can be developed for a particular species and go from there ! It’s simply called expierence
Water Dogs/Newts, Frogs, and Rattletraps. Also a small spoon if you can see the Trout in the stream. Cast it past them 4 times and yank it away 4 inches from them, the 5th times just pull it past them and they will hit it every time. They bite because they are hungry or mad. So make them mad, same thing with the rattletrap. Bring it in as fast as you can and work 90 to 180 degrees with it 3 times. Nothing move on to the next spot.
I agree with JoeyL: a curly tail grub on a jig head appropriate for the water depth.
Panther Martins, specifically the black w/ yellow dots, gold blade... with the feathers if you can find 'em. Any size, caught steelhead on a 1/4oz, caught 10" planter rainbows on a 1/2oz.
Inline spinner preferably Panther Martin
Rage Bug in Bama Craw color. 4/0 EWG weightless during the pre spawn then Texas rigged with a 3/8-1/2 oz bullet weight the rest of the year.
