Good job on the fish and report Fred. Never thought about using a fake coyote to scare off geese. Slicker than goose poo takes on a new meaning when it's all over your lawn.

Went to a small lake over near the Connecticut River this morning. Water temperature 60.5°, wind blowing 10mph, gusts to 15. Started in the shallow north cove, nothing. Worked the shoreline to the dam cove on the east side, only getting a bunch of short strikes, probably panfish. Worked the large, shallow flats on the south end of the lake, one follow up, but no takers. Couldn't see any beds on the flats, surprisingly with the 60°+water. A couple guys catching yellow perch on the flat. Worked my way up the west side and had a Pickerel bite a Dinger in half at the boat. I was starting to smell a wiff of SKUNK (along with hamburgers on a grill). I started heading towards the ramp, and decided to hit the north cove again before I leave. Since the dinger was half gone, I threw a wacky General in June Bug on. 2nd cast into the cove and BAM! A nice solid hit, took some line and I thought it might be a pike, but one jump in the middle of the cove confirmed Largemouth. Got her in the boat, 2lb 6oz. Whew, that was a close one. Decided to quit while I was ahead, and before the wind got worse.

Hey Fred. Good job. I just go t back from Louisiana - watching the world go from almost summer back to early spring as I drove north. I was wondering how the fishing is with respect to the water temperatures (the Connecticut river is just above 52 degrees in Northfield) so you proved to me that it's about time to start getting the boat ready. Things will only improve from this point on - unless it snows again. Harry

Thanks Dave, I was surprised at the lack of activity in some good conditions. Naturally I think I'm doing something wrong, but in the end it felt better. If another storm wasn't blowing in I would have made another lap around the lake just for the fun of it.

I think it all comes down to being in the right place at the right time, when it comes to “catching”...🐟on

Nice fish Fred . Glad you kept the skunk away. I got out last Thursday for couple hours for first time this year. Saw nothing, no nibbles, caught nothing. Enjoyed the fresh air and peace and quiet. I considered it a good day.

You got that right Harry, we're about a month behind schedule here too. Mother Nature is dragging her feet.

I probably could have caught panfish if I was trying, but I wanted the big bucket mouth. Settled for a medium, but it's better than Pepe. LOL

Some consistently warm, dry weather would improve results here for a lot of people.
