Light braid for panfish.
I want to use a low pound braid for my ultra light spinning set up(8 pounds or less)bluegill specifically.Anyone do this or have suggestions.I hate flourocarbon,and will do mono if forced to.Thanks for info!!
I use 10# braid . That is about #2 mono diameter. I would not go lighter. Small diameter braid will cut the crap out of you. I have heard if bandages on the finger to stop the cuts for awhile.

Using light weight braid is a great idea, but I would suggest tying 3-4 ft of 6 lb flourocarbon leader to the braid. Reason for fluorocarbon is the small diameter for its strength, it sinks, and is invisible in the water.
Using Mono as the leader is fine if that's your choice, but fluorocarbon might bring you more bite from the larger fish that might shy away from a line they can see. (JMO)

I tried 5 lb power pro braid on a couple bluegill rods. I love braid but now go no lower than 10 lb. That 5 lb kept my fingers bleeding. I take a large dose of blood thinner daily so a small nick can really bleed. I use 4 to 6 lb mono & a flurocarbon leader. I run almost hot water on my spooled line for several minutes then give my line & leader a good dose of line conditioner. Reelsnot is good but too oily for me. The KVD brand isn't oily & neither is the bass pro brand. Either will help a lot with memory. You may not like flurocarbon but with today's technology it's about as good as it gets.
Thanks!!I di love the technology and the concept of flourocarbon.But the execution sucks!!It worked my nerves as leader, but it was great, better than mono, but on my spinning reels, it came off on every cast, even when I didnt want it, every time i opened the bail!And the knots tying it to the main line, gave my micro guides hell, even with tiny knots!By the time I got around to shortning all my leaders to fit,about 3 feet, my patience with flouro carbon was gone!!
Don't blame you for not liking flourocarbon if it's hard on your guides.
I haven't had a problem with that or the line unwantedly coming off the.spool. I also use flourocarbon as the tippet on my fly fishing gear without problem when fishing subsurface tactics. Use mono when throwing surface flies and skaters.

I use 4 ,LB mono for panfish and change it often. Not a big fan of braid unless I am in salt water

The problem with your line coming off the spool when it's not wanted might be solved by spooling a little less line. Too much line on a spinning reel spool often leads to the type of situation you described. In my early fishing years, I had that happen when I overloaded my spinning reel spools.
Since braid has no memory it tangles easily in a soinning reel. I’d suggest a copolymer like Silver Thread AN40. I use it almost exclusively. It’s low stretch, high knot strength, low memory and just an easier line to use than others.
I use brad on cane poles for all kinds of fish . 10 is the best for me. We have some crazy fish here .
