Hi there, anyone have any experience catching strippers in rivers on lures? I’m extremely new to this so any and all tips, especially on picking a good spot to fish and where to cast. I have lots of experience fishing for largemouth in ponds but not much other than that.

Yes lures work in rivers for stripers! Find inlets or outlets is always a good spot to fish, pinch points drop offs, I’m just starting to fish stripers my self! So I’m sure theres others who can give you more info on the subject! Just my 2 cents! Good luck and be safe!!

Up here, the guys who do well on the holdovers in the rivers mainly use swimbaits. Either paddle tailed shad, or Lunker City Fin-S-Fish. From 5"on a 3/8or 1/2oz jighead, up to 8" or9" on a 3/4 or 1oz head.
Some fish plugs but they tend to do better when the bigger fish arrive after the water warms up.

I use soft plastic that float because I like to see the strike. Most people use live bait but I do not. Where I have the most luck is the mouth of a creek that runs into the river. If the water is deep enough, 2 to 3 feet they will come into the creek. Just toss a soft plastic and jig it slowly and get ready.

Yeah, I don't think those kind of stripers are interested in what kind of lure you are using...
