Not familiar with Dobbins, but I never heard anything bad about St Croix. Have a couple of their rods.

I own a Dobyns Fury and just love it. It's bout a 120 dollar rod. Don't know how much the St Croix rod is.

You might consider the new line of St. Croix Victory rods.

For that budget I’d have to say the Dobyns
I’m a die hard st croix and loomis guy but I wasn’t all that impressed with the Bass X
The mojo bass isn’t a bad stick. For a few more bucks it beats the Dobyns IMO
St croix doesn’t do much for me until you get to Avid.
Loomis competitive model at this price point is the E6x. And between the 2 I’d take the St Croix Avid.

I have both the Dobyns Fury and the St. Croix BassX in med. heavy mod. fast taper. Love both rods but between the two, and this is just my opinion, the Fury feels like a tank and has more backbone (I use it for spinner, buzzbait and light bladed swim jigs) but the BassX is definitely more sensitive (I use for crankbaits and jerkbaits) and feels lighter (though I haven't actually weighed the two). Ergonomically, the Dobyns handle feels slightly better in my hand and is less fatiguing. Hope that helps.

St Croix. And that's one thing I have learned over the years. Don't buy it online unless you had the rod already and know what it is like. I would say u have to feel rod in ur hands and you kinda need a rod for all different types of fishing. Small rod for trout, lil bit bigger rod for bass . Bigger rod for strippers .

I bought a St. Croix Bass X rod for $80. It is lightweight and doesn't wear you down. Paired with a Shimano SLX reel makes for smooth & effortless fishing.
