I use Trilene 12 lb mono on most of my bait casters. Use braid on fliping, carolina etc.

I also use Abu Garcia Bait Casting reels.I don't think mono is your best choice for a bait casting reel.I use Power Pro braid which gives me smaller diameter line more strength and less stretch .

I understand but I'm 64 yrs. old and used mono for everything for a long time just because that was the best we had at the time. You know us old farts hard to change things up. lol I'm just proud I started using braid after all those yrs. We had to use heavy mono for carolina rig and flipping. I quit fishing after a draw tournament partner threw my fish back when I went to get a bag. Would have won but that was what it was. Took up golf of all things but came back to fishing after about 15 yrs. A lot had changed while I was gone and had a lot to learn again. Still had the touch and old knowledge but had to make a lot of changes. Fish for pure enjoyment and to teach the grandkids.

I am a convert to the new superbraids. Very thin and strong. Also not seriously weakened by abrasion or "nicks". One caveat, buy a scissors made for braided line... you can't cut this stuff with a nail clipper!
