Fishing a 2-3 acre pond in central California and cant seem to figure then out! Caught 8
2-3lb bass in a matter of 3 hours using live bluegill back in May. I’ve since found out thats illegal and have spent over 40 hours fishing it with regular baits because i know they’re in there but have only caught one fish. Pong is pretty much all short to long grass on the bottom and maybe 10 ft deep in the center. It is currently the middle of August so any tips for this time of year would be great!

Welcome to the Forum, 805, I can't help you out, I'm not a bass fisherman.

Small pond water heats up the oxygen level goes down the fish get lethargic fish early morning and late afternoon when the sun goes down fish will be in the deepest part of the pond use soft plastic minnows or small plastic bluegill they sell them anywhere from 1 to 3 inches pick the color that matches the ones in your pond. Good luck and happy fishing

If you can, try fishing at night. They seem to come alive and hang at the shore. I got my experience fishing golf courses in Maryland night time is the only time you can sneak in. I find it best after midnight. Try top waters, buzz baits, jitterbugs, frog baits or rubber worms with or without weights. Let us know how it goes.

Try live frogs. Hook them on a plain, short shank hook through the lips from the bottom up. I use a short shank #6 crappie hook for most everything. No leader necessary for bass, small split shot if needed. No swivels, snaps on line. Live nightcrawlers also work well if not too many weeds. Hook the LIVE crawler through the nose and cast it out, without sinkers or hardware if possible. I have also had good results for both smallouth and largemouth bass by using a 1/16th ounce jig and about a 1/3 or 1/2 of a crawler fed on the hook and up over the bait keeper barb on the jig head. To suspend ANY of these over weeds you can use a bobber or slip bobber.
