The canals are east of the cities, more or less the Everglades. All freshwater. Water level is low and I can walk along waters edge. No gator interferrance in the past that I've been doing this for 40 years now. I'm 71 now and a little slower but still bring in a few. C&R only now. Cast Culprit black worm 7.5 or 10'' to other bank and pull thru weeds , rocks or sand. Works for me, not so much on spinner baits. I've tried several.
Thanks for this site and for all the tips and conversation!

Your remarks about fishing canals
in Florida and dealing with 'gators brought this little anecdote to mind;
Back in the '80s, when my youngest brother was in his mid- to late-20s,
he and some of his close friends
would go down to the Hollywood/ Hallandale area to visit one of their group who had recently moved
there ! They would go down for
4 or 5 days to play golf, fish, drink
beer and run amok !
One day, three of the guys are
making a grocery/beer run, while
their fourth buddy decides he's
gonna go fishing in the nearest
canal - on their way back, they
spot their (clueless/never been
out of N.H.) friend standing
knee-deep in the canal, fishing ! -
"Reuben ! What in hell are you
doing in that canal ?" - "What's it
look like I'm doing ? I'm freakin'
fishing !" - Reuben, this isn't
'home' - it's not a good idea to
wade down here in Florida, as the lakes/canals are full of 'gators and cottonmouths !" - Well our hero, Reuben, turned white as a sheet and practically FLEW out of that canal
when he realized his mistake -
I wasn't there to see it, but my
brother and his friends all had
a good laugh at his expense
when they got home and re-told
that story REPEATEDLY, just to
make sure it sank in, I guess !
