Does anyone know what kind of fish this is? About 6" long, so I am assuming it is a juvenile. Caught in the Gulf off of Captiva/Sanibel.

Not 100% certain . It may be a juvenile Tilefish.

I agree. Without seeing the tail fin and the whole side of the fish makes it harder to identify. My guess based on my knowledge of this fishing area, my book and wall posters seems to point me to a juvenile Mutton Snapper just shy of May spawning season here in Florida. Maybe this snapper has or doesn't have a button (distinct black dot) near the dorsal upper side of it's body. Some do and some don't.
