Different ways to setup fishing rods, hooks, weights... and the use of each setup

So guys im totaly new beginner dont know anything about fishing, and now it have been several days ive been watching videos and reading stuff about fishing, searching for the basics... and i learned a lot during this journey...

What im looking for is mainly saltwater fishing, i dont know a lot how to swimm, and i dont have a boat so i want to start my fishing from the shore...

But there are few things that i dont quite understand, like the different ways to setup the hook, the weight, and float... some requires a float while others dont, some requires the weight to be at the end after the hook, while others require the weight to be just before the tackle and no float is used here, some require a float then the weight then the hook, some assemble many hooks, while others need only one... and we have not talked about the distance between one and another element...

An assembly is made for surface fishing while another one is made for the bottom fishing and others for in between...

So guys if anyone knows of any video or website that can explain those variables, when to use this, and when to use that...

Thx in advanced

I suppose it depends where your fishing but best course of action is go to a local tackle shop and ask what u need for what’s biting....i surf fish off jersey coast and use bottom rigs alomost exclusively......

A lot of it depends on what fish you are after. Some are more towards the bottom or on the bottom. Some want the bait higher up. That's why they use to sell floats that you tied to the leader of the hook to lift it up so the fish could see it better as they swim by. The top float rigs were more for top water hitting fish. The sliding sinker/Carolina rig was for live bait fish to be able to swim around where the weight was at. Some fish hug the bottom, some swim 8-12 inches off the bottom. ect. A good tackle shop can tell you what should be in the area where you are going fishing. Having said that, it can and will vary from month to month. So keep checking with the shops and other fishermen in the where you are fishing from. At least the ones catching fish. LOL Go have fun and enjoy.
