Anxious to get out this spring and troll the Porkies this spring. Shallow for coho and deeper for lakers. Anyone out yet?

I have not been up there yet this season, but as a matter of inspiration for you I am attaching a few snapshots from early last July fishing out of Union Bay State Park and heading slightly West. Fishing in 100' of water, 80 feet down and targeting the lake trout. Set up was a 7 color leadcore with a #3 Luhr Jensen jet diver to get down deep and still be able to get a decent troll speed up with paddling into some headwinds. Inland the action was for brookies, although I made a modest effort to go after some coaster brook trout as well in some of the tributaries to the Lake Superior farther West at the Black River and Presque Isle. It may be a tad early, but I have to admit that I do not have that fishery dialed in as much as my home waters in NW Michigan. The lake trout are always present, so if the coho have not shown up yet at least the laker's are there...and mighty delicious too! Good luck when you go!

Forgot to mention that the marina and boat launch facilities at Black River were closed for major construction last Summer. I do not know if they finished before Winter set in. You might want to check with your known local resources to be sure the marina is open for launching before heading over there.

The Porkies is a shortened local "reference name" for the Porcupine Mountains that run along a short section of the Southerly shoreline of Lake Superior between Presque Isle and Union Bay in far Northwestern Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Awesome region and quite rugged. The "mountains" are not the sky scrapers you think of when talking about the Rockies...for instance. A few more typical snapshots....

I have fished at Presque Isle But never in the U P. Thanks for the information. It looks like a great place to fish.
