Using pike spoons near weeds

I tried to go pike fishing recently from my kayak. I heard that large spoons and swimbaits were the way to go.

Every time I would cast a spoon near the weed line, it would hang up in weeds the second it hit the water.

Should I have stayed further from the weedy areas, or is there a special way to use spoons around weeds? The area is sort of a marsh, so the whole area does have weeds; it's just that some areas aren't as thick as others.

Personally I find the best option is to work the pockets with fewer weeds, patches or channels through the weed beds, or along the edges of the weed lines if possible. If the whole lake is weedy you may have to change the game plan. Swapping the treble to a large single hook can help a lot in snagging fewer weeds. Other great baits for weedy lakes with pike are weedless spoons like the jawbreaker or Johnson Silver Minnow. Spinnerbaits are also a great option as well.

I’ve seen a weedless single hook spoon before. I’m not sure who makes it. Do some research I’m sure you can find it.

Johnson's Silver Minnow is a (mostly) weedless spoon.

DareDevil makes seedless also, nothing is truly weedless. Find small pockets,a slower retrieve
