bullhead city fish

New to forum. Fish the river here in Az. Have condo on river with a great marina. It is what I would call fish city. Everything is out there. Largemouth, smallies, striper, redear sunfish, even turtles. I fish light. 7' light action rod 6lb test spinning. I twitch worms, swim baits, light tackle baits. What gives? I catch 1 or 2 bass with 1 particular bait and then the bite turns off. I can see them down there bait right in front of them. they swim to it stare at it then swim away. I'll switch baits, retrive, twitch whatever and no strikes. I guess the ones I land go back and warn the others? It's hot aug. is that it? Frustrating for sure. Anybody out there with a guess, feel free. First time on any forum at all. Looking forward to find info on this site. Hello everybody.

Well, hello there, bullhead, you might try lighter line the fish might be seeing your line. I used to fish in some lime rock pits and had the same problem. I used some 2# test line and started getting hooked up. I had more break offs but got hooked up lots. It's fun when you can see them pick up a plastic bait off the bottom too. I haven't been able to find 2# test line locally for several years now. The lightest line walmart has is 6# but I did find some 4# test in a local shop awhile back and bought both spools that they had.

thanks for the info, Garry. I have some 6lb fluro I might try as a leader and see what happens. I moved here last sept. I was hooking up all day. Then July came around and everything shut down. If fluro fails , it's 4lb low vis green I think. Thanks again.

Having grown up here in Arizona I can tell you summer fishing on the Colorado can be fun but more difficult when its this hot. Try fishing early early in the morning. When the sun get high they don't like it at all and tend to turn off. And fishing at night when the high was 110+ is just to hot for me.

Thanks. Your right about the heat. Iv'e been going out 5am and 6:30 -7pm if I can handle it. The fishing is slow. Past couple days Iv'e got 1 morning 1 evening an Hour. I haven't tried the main river yet. I'm across from the casinos in Laughlin. They say good striper fishing along casino row. I like here.

Try putting anchovies on the bottom. The Stripers and catfish will both pick them up. Fish are deep this time of year. Although with a light setup you might be in trouble if you hook a cat or one of those 30 pounders. I'm in Phoenix, but am up there quite a bit. More Parker area though. Usually the best fishing is December through may.
