Jumping into fly fishing

At the end of a very challenging year of unemployment, I treated myself to a fly rod. I’m slightly daunted, but mostly excited about all I have to learn. Now that I’ll be a weekend warrior, it’ll be a slower process than the other parts of of fishing I’ve picked up, but I’m excited none the less. Here’s a few pics of some of the catches from my last week of unemployed fishing therapy.

Beautiful trout and pictures AA, it looks like you're getting the hang of that fly rod. Thanks for sharing.

I wish! Those fish are from the spin rods and I’ve just been learning my cast so far. Hopefully it’s a fruitful year though.

I was thinking you must be an extremely fast learner LOL. Good trying to master the buggy whip. Keep the pictures coming, either way.

My wife and I went to the McCloud River in N California, one of the premier fly fishing rivers in the state. There are sections of the conservancy that are catch and release only, only 10 people allowed per day. By the campground you can keep fish but it goes beyond what you can do, we kept two fish for dinner, and the reaction we got was like we had desecrated the holy, my wife was cleaning them and someone walking by tells her it's catch and release, she told them that you can keep them above the conservancy...they said well people don't, she told them well we do, we like to eat fish.

So we kept only what we were eating for dinner and breakfast, and didn't take any home...we felt like we would be responsible for heart attacks if we came out with stringers of fat two pound rainbows.

Good on you! I eat my catch but I do release all unwanted and that's what I taught my kids.
