Easter season

This Sunday begins the Easter season. It remembers the most important events in the Christian calendar starting with the celebration of the "triumphal entry" and ending with "resurrection sunday". I know some will say this is a fishing forum and for this reason I am posting this in the attic which is where we post things that are not fishing related but we want to talk about that others may not agree with. So here is my thoughts on this Sunday celebration of the triumphal entry.

The crowd yelled הושענות! הושענות! The Hebrew word Hosanna is not the same as Hallelujah which is joyous expression of “Praise the LORD” but rather is a simple plea for help. Hosanna literally means “save us”! Yes the crowds were Joyful it was a triumphal entry as the crowd took palm branches and waved them and laid them as a carpet in the path he was traveling, shouting “ Save us! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!...” not knowing that within one short week He would again walk through a shouting crowd only this time to jeers as he stumbled under the weight of a cross and would be lifted up in shame as he actually accomplished the salvation that just a week before the crowds were crying out for, not the salvation from the oppressive masters of Rome but the oppression from the oppressive master of sin and then the real triumphal entry as he came forth the victor over sin and death, the price paid, the victory won, Hosanna Hosanna the cry for salvation has been accomplished. “…The Lord is God and He has given us light….Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His loving kindness is everlasting” (Ps. 118:26-29) Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Wishing all you Christians a healthy and peaceful Easter Season. Same for those who celebrate Passover and our Muslim friends who observe Ramadan. Those of us who celebrate the Vernal Equinox are just now recovering from our reveling and looking forward to the Solstice. Be safe everyone. And enjoy whatever it is that floats your boat.

It’s the water beneath and the air within that does it for mine (I think...).
Wishing you a happy Easter season and Solstice as well, Spirit. He died for you too, friend.

I truly respect that you believe that. Thank you for your well wishing. Now get off my lawn and go color some eggs for the kids.

thanks Spiritof27 if more people would have the live and let live attitude in life in what a person believes and espouses both politically and religiously and engage in open sharing and discussion of these beliefs that may be different than ones own and still accept each other and wish each other well, it would go a long way in bring this country back to some level of sanity. If we take time to talk to each other we find we all have a lot more in common than we would think and even in the things we disagree with a lot of time we can find common ground and for those things we can not find common ground with "what ever floats your boat" attitude and agree to disagree is a good approach to life. I appreciate your words Spiritof27

I have often thought the Christian Symbol should not be a cross, but an empty tomb.

while I don't use quite as strong language as you minding your own business is almost always good advice. It is interesting that the first coin the continental congress made for our nation was inscribed with the phrase “Mind your Business” wish is also very close to what a verse in the Bible says “..mind your own affairs” ( 1 Thessalonians 4:11) So I guess you could say it is both patriotic and Biblical to “mind your own Business” of course looking out for one another is all our business so looking the other way when some grandma gets sucker punched or her purse stolen is not minding your own business since that that sort of thing is all our business.

I can see your point but of course they go together with out the cross there would be no empty tomb and with out the empty tomb the cross would be meaningless. In the early church the symbol was a fish the Greek word for fish became to the early church an acronym for the phrase Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Savior the first letters of each spelled out the Greek word ΙΧΘΥΣ (Ixthus) or fish. While this doesn't work in English you still see the Christian symbol of the fish displayed by many Christians as a symbol and in proclamation of "Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior" . He is risen

I agree with everything you said. He is risen. The tomb is empty. Love that symbol.
