I think that early in the season you will want to be in the central or eastern part of the lake for walleyes, but you could catch them throughout the lake too.

Have a great trip - Lake Vermilion is one of the most beautiful lakes in all of Minnesota!
Besides walleyes, it is also a great smallmouth bass and perch lake as well . . . and some bruiser bluegills!
