That's the thing about forums: everyone's an expert and everyone has a different opinion and everyone's right and everyone's wrong.
Basically, if you want to know something, don't go on a forum. I was told this over 20 years ago and so far it's been excellent advice.
He's right. I have one as well that I got from my grandfather.
I have used those reels for trolling and mooching for salmon and Halibut all my life. It looks like a nice one. I’m sure it’s right handed.
The side plates are white because they are made with Delrin (spelling???) most of the large Reel makers made reels with this product at one time or other.

I’ve got a Penn 209 that has red side plates. In the past I’ve had another Penn with red also and a black one as well. Also an Ocean City that was black.
We used them for deep sea fishing up in MA. when i fished with my dad.
I started surf fishing and casting that type reel 52 yrs, ago , had a piece of old shoe tung leather sewn to the spreader bar so one could control the spool speed when casting without burning your thumb . that was my Grandfather's invention to prevent the birds nest and it works !
I use to own one. Used it to fish for flounder as well as mackerel of Southern California.
It looks to me like a Abu Garcia ambassador the large round reels are known for simple design, easy maintenance, made with a heavy duty carbon Matrix drag four smooth and constant dragged across the entire range. With the precision and Power you need to subdue the most treacherous game fish! good for trolling, jigging, and drop applications not really for casting lures.
Great for BIG catfish
