I'd like to know how this chip inside of dc reels works. Is there a internal battery that charges it? Are some chips more advanced than others? How does the chip relay its information to your breaking system? Does it adjust itself based on the settings you have applied or is it solely set on and adjusts to its own baseline? Thanks in advance

There are no batteries, it’s self charging. Every time you cast it generates the energy it needs. You set the reel to the type of line your going to use. Monofilament, fluorocarbon, braid. Also follow the directions to loosening the spool so there a little play then set the brake as you would any bait caster by letting you lure slowly fall to the ground. Play with it until you get it just the way you want.

Thinking of going to a Curado DC for Muskie &bass on my Dobyns 704 XP med hvy fast rod. Is this a good choice. I went to bait casters two years ago (after 60+ of spinning)with a Garcia Beast and don’t really like my ‘witches’ nests when I am not paying attention - which is quite often at my age 🤪🤪. Fished for a couple hours last year with a guy that swore by his DC but wanted other opinions.

A tech once told me its Magic Smoke. He said he knew this because everytime he let the smoke out it quit working.

Maybe ought to check out their warranty? How are they about standing behind their products? Guess I’ll be going to google now. Buddy let me use a 10-20 yr?? old Curado he had when I first started and said it was a workhorse for him.

Looks like only the standard one year warranty, with receipt from original purchaser.

I love my Garcia beast. Just thumb it lightly in the very beginning. i gave up on DC's. I'd rather use my brain
than relying on a computer's brain.

Ya I enjoy the beast when I am paying attention and not BS’ing so much😜😜. Maybe just change my habits and not the reel - much cheaper that way!! Some of my issue is not changing the reel setup when I change lure weights from Muskies to bass. I B bad!! My own fault and here I was starting to think that some stupid computer chip might help me out. Thanks for bringing me back to reality!!

........it's a TRACKING DEVICE! It's sending data about your whereabouts and how many fish you've reeled in to the department of fish & game!

Now, where did I put my tinfoil hat?

The reel is a generator. It generates electricity when it spins to power the circuitry.

It looks to me like the microprocessor is controlling a feedback current to the same coils that generate the power to apply braking a current to the reel, but that is just my best guess. The DC is a very nice reel, but so is a regular Curado. I own both and I love fishing with both of them.
