Over-sized tires change the gear ratio required for towing. Don't change the truck.....change the tires.

Sounds like your truck needs service. I have similar vehicle and tow an 8000 lb. camper without issue.

I would think one of the first things the boat dealership would do is to go online and look up the make and model of the truck to see if it was capable of pulling a boat and trailer of that size before selling it to you.

I have towed a car trailer with three pallets of sod. 2000 F-150, 5.7L, towing package. It worked hard, but highway speeds and hills were no problem. Still own it.

You might have hit the nail on the head Terry. That would explain the sudden change in capability.Either out of adjustment,or a problem with the brake controller.I would look there FIRST.

Agreed. If the trailer isn't level the surge brakes might be actuating on and off due to the angle of the tongue. Of course they would probably be blazing hot, cooked bearings etc. after a while. A good place to start.

Takes more power to turn big tires. It's like putting in higher ratio differential gears.

Tire size matters. When you put bigger or smaller tires on, it changes the distance the truck travels in one revolution. That is why on cars with cable speedometers, had to change the gearing on the transmission cable output. ie, if you were in crowded traffic moving at 75, your speedometer would not read accurately.
