If you come to California I can take you where you have to hide behind a tree to bait your hook the brookies are that plentiful and hungry. But. There are no whoppers. Gotta go to Burger King for one of those. I'm been looking for over 20 years now for a place that has whopper brook trout. Hell, I'd settle for a pound.
Same in PA where I grew up. We’d go a little east into the mountains for natives. You did well to catch a 9 incher, but boy were they beautiful little fish.
I was about 12 when Mom and Dad took me to Arkansas camping. That's been 64 years ago. I caught two native trout in a little stream beside our camp. They were about 6/7 inches long. I sat and looked at them for a while, thinking how beatiful they were. I haven't been back. It's a shame God wasted youth on the young. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go back.
Ok guys, got to come clean. I’m sure y’all thought I was full of BS. My number is still 17 but only a few flatheads were whoppers to me but not close to being true whoppers, one 40 and two 30 pounders (not weighed), 30.12, 26.14 and a bunch under 20. I’ve had a few whopper bass that have great stories about the ones that got away like the 10 + or - LM bass. Fishing with ultra light and 4 pound mono. I was seeing big bass hitting top water and thought why not. Only had the one rod with me so I put a big 11” black flip tail worm on and made a few casts when it inhaled that worm. I set the hook and it came plum out of the water and spit it back at me. That little rod just couldn’t get it done but sure was fun trying.
13 total in all my years.
Caught one in saltwater I think was called a "Jack"
17. My whopper is not there: a 250-lb Pacific halibut.
8...no whoppers (at least not while sober!).
15-all whoppers. (I fish,therefore I lie!)
