Throw in a few buzz words like pandemic, credit past due, canceled, and even a family members name. No matter what age group is targeted we all are subject to panic when it comes to money.

" deserve to get hacked " A little cruel there aren't you.

The days of carrying wods of cash are long gone especially when these days an appointment is required to get in the bank in some locations. Ease up on those that have fallen prey and educate then instead of degrading would be the kindness thing to do.

Cash is still king. No power no credit cards. I know bankers who keep cash in their homes. When the power is out the ATM doesn’t work. Some stores stay open for cash only.
Anyone can be scammed. When I was young I worked for a company that sold kitchens. One day a man stopped in and said he needed two kitchens. He knew everyone’s name and said that we were recommended to him. He said he was in a hurry to get to the track and that he would come back in the morning and give us the keys to measure his kitchens. My boss gave him 10 bucks to put down on a horse. The next morning he came back with coffee for all, two keys and 15 bucks for the boss and said his horse had placed. He was in a real hurry to get back to the track because he had a sure thing. My boss looking to maintain the relationship and sell him the kitchens asked what a good bet would be. The man said he was putting 200 on the horse so my boss gave him 200 to put down on the horse also. He handed me the addresses to measure the kitchen and said he would be back in the morning to buy them. He left and the boss sent me out to measure.....there were no such addresses. When I returned and told the boss they didn’t exist he knew he’d been scammed. Needless to say....we never saw the man again.

Nobody disserves to be hacked. I fixed the problem 10 yrs ago. Got rid of the credit cards. Don't use credit. Smartest thing I ever did. Have a debit card only. Works just fine.

My wife works at a local bank. She deals with people that get scammed all the time. Those that get scammed the most are people who can least afford it. The elderly are number one on the list. God will judge these scammers!

There isn’t a safe way. You have to check statements and do all right things. Even then you can get hacked. Bank example. I had $650 deducted from my bank account. It wasn’t associated with any credit card. I was checking my statements and saw the deduction. It was the U.S. Department of Agriculture, taking a loan payment for someone else. I went to the bank and they gave me the money back in a couple of days. They couldn’t explain it. So do you use a bank? If there is a dummy out there and I am not calling anyone dumb here, it is anyone who thinks they are safe and not fully aware of their finances. Keep eyes open and lines tight.

When I am doing 70 MPH in a 55 and get pulled over I deserve the $120.00 ticket. When I was told not to lick the aluminum I cube tray, and when I did it anyhow I deserved to get my tongue frozen to it. When I was told not to drink at the high school dance but I did anyhow, I deserved to get grounded. When they say don't use credit cards at gas pumps or put that information on line and you do......you get what you deserve as crappy as that sounds, you still get what you deserve.

And who is this ( They ) that you mention to not use credit cards at gas pumps or put info on line?

Would that be that common sense fellow that has left the country?

Yesterday I got a very brief email supposedly from someone I knew in a club I used to belong too. The email asked a simple question, "Do you have an Amazon account"?

Right off I knew it was a scam so I replied, "Where do I know you from?" Which I knew I would not get an answer and I didn't. I also knew it was a scam because a month and a half ago my wife got the same request supposedly from someone in a club she belongs too.

After she said, No but my husband does, here came the request. This supposed acquaintance said she was having a little problem with her credit card and the bank that it would take a couple of days to resolve and she needed to buy a birthday gift NOW for a third person that my wife also knew whose Birthday was supposedly tomorrow and she wanted to get that gift to her before her birthday. My wife tried to call the REAL person that was asking for the favor but was not able to talk to her. However we declined to do it. What she/he had asked for was for me to buy a $150 gift card from Amazon and send it to this third person. Sometime after we turned down the request (which sounded real good and true) my wife was able to contact the real people she she knew and confirmed that it all was a scam!

So after I got the request that I showed on the first line of this thread I sent an email to an acquaintance who I knew the last time I belonged to that organization who was the president then, where I and the person whose name was used were members and I told her she needed to warn the other members. She answered back and said it was too late since she fell for it and now had lost $150 an found out yesterday she had bought a refrigerator, but she was lucky that she had already canceled her Credit card.

Here is a piece of advice that my Daughter recommended to me and that only took minutes to do to protect me from BIG purchases like a car, house Refrigerator or something big that YOUR credit card agency will check with (one of the three big credit agencies). You need to freeze your credit which only takes minutes. You go to the three big credit agencies who you see advertising all the time on how to improve your "CREDIT SCORE". Then if you need to buy something "Big" you unfreeze your credit for a short window that your credit union or some other place can check during that window, then you freeze it again so you cannot be hurt! This is very serious so I advise you to stop these bad &%#$@& people! They are working very hard to take your money or house, Fore Warned is Fore Armed. You don't want to say sometime later, "GEESE I WISH I HAD DONE SOMETHING. It is too late to close the barn door after the livestock has got out!
Yesterday I got a very brief email supposedly from... (show quote)

I froze mine last year after my identity was stolen and was used to receive a credit card but we caught it before they were able to use it. Their slick and sometimes very convincing. My advice is always beware of who you are doing business with...🐟on

Well now when your debit card gets compromised they’ll just wipe out your whole account and you have no recourse in recovering your money...just say’n 😯🐟on

jemstone90: I AM OFFENDED BY YOUR 2 POSTS ABSURDLY BLAMING US for the unscrupulous acts of others.
You do not need to be compassionate when someone is scammed, just don’t add salt to their wound by posting the angry attitude you have just displayed to us that all bad things are our fault.
BE NICE OR BE QUIET!

Be nice or be quite? Is that the rules on this sight or just the rules for people that say things you don't like? Don't tell the truth if it will offend someone? There must be some thin skinned posters if they are OFFENDED by and ABSURD post from someone they don't even know and will probably never meet. I don't post or read the posts to make friends. This is a lot like facebook for fishing people. Just another gossip column for people trying to feel like what they say means something, or they have friends. A friend is someone that will help you when you need it, or someone you actually do things with. Odds are very few of the people on this site will ever meet anyone else on this site. If you don't want your info stolen don't post it on line.... you have been warned.

I posted this subject trying to do a good thing and to try to alert people of the scam and maybe stop an elderly person like myself from getting sucked in. I didn't think we would have people calling people stupid or they deserved to get scammed!

Amen.
I just couldn’t tolerate the WAY the individual chose to attack. It was not justified in this situation.

We are here to collectively reinforce each other whether it is fishing, health or other things in life.
I feel for everyone that has ailments and pray for them even if I do not acknowledge on a post.

Thanks Kerry for the scamming info, I am aware of my surroundings but others may not be.
