I’m new as they come! Anyway I managed to set up my rod and tie on weights and lures. When I go to cast the reel will not engage? Is this something to do with the way I have set up the rod? Also it’s so windy when I try to set my rod up but the pier,is there a possible way I can do this indoors and it will be ready for me when I arrive?

What do you mean the reel wont engage? Is it a spinning reel or baitcaster? If its spinning reel, is the bail open? If its not...the line cant come off the spool. Sounds like what you’re describing.

Post a picture of your set-up and someone will be able to diagnose. Better, take your rig back to where you bought it and ask for help.

Sounds like you didn’t put the line under the bail.
If this is the case , don’t feel alone in the world. I’ve done it and it pisses me off every time

If theline were laying on top of the bail, it would unspool like crazy wouldnt it? Hell, you wouldn’t even be able to carry the rod without it unspooling. If its under the bail like it’s supposed to be ,and he doesn’t open it, line wont budge....sounds like what he’s describing.

If he posted 51 thousand times...he wouldn’t have time to fish.

I've had similar troubles with a closed face reel like the zebcos. They work great at first but after I put
new line on one it will cast out about 15 ft or so and the line with stop coming out of the reel.
I pull more line out to loosen it but the same thing happens on the next cast. Sometimes a dip in the water
will help, my Dad sez it goes on the reel the same way it came off the spool.
I seem to get it twisted, so I would use a snap swivel and hook that
to something and walk away and pay out the line as I go to un-twist the line. This helps for awhile. Always
happens with mono. So I switched to an open face reel and braided line with no memory.
Now some of my reels are so old they need to be taken apart and cleaned and re-lubed. Just faster to get
another one. So now I have a collection. Now that I'm retired may be I'll start cleaning and lubing them
between fishing trips of coarse.

If you look on the digest list page (where you tapped on this topic) you will see that Defiant_Chocolate928 has only made 14 posts.
He joined at the beginning of the Fishing Stage (Oct. 16, 2018) before they enabled individual identities.

The Stage administration should resolve all of the original members that were “grandfathered” so that we can see their individual posting numbers, birthdays and their locations. Locations would help all of us when trying to help those trapped in Oct. 16, 2018.
