Rod transport

Anyone have good or unique ideas on how to transport 7’6 - 8ft rods in a 5’6ft truck bed? I have been using the hard shell card board tube the rod comes in through the mail but it is becoming inefficient as I have to take the reel off every time.

I'll bet you wish that they were 2-piece rods, huh? If you find out, let me know.

Saw a holder a guy constructed out of PVC pipe that looked like what you’re looking for. I believe it was on Kansas hunting fishing site, I will see if I can locate it and copy and paste it.

Make a simple carrier from 1.5 inch pvc pipe.

Put a luggage carrier on your cab and tie down one end. Of course it would depend on how you’re going. I live couple of miles from the beach, so I don’t worry about it too much.
Fly rods are a different story.

If you have a sliding window in the back of your cab just open it enough to stick your rods inside. I have a camper shell on my 5 1/2 ft bed. When I haul rods too long I just open the window & I could carry a 10 ft rod. When I ordered my camper I ordered the rack on top but it came in without it. The dealer said he could install them for $500. At least the factory got a perfect color match.

I like NE fisherman idea. You could get a 4 PVC and neck it down to 1 1/2 and can transport both rod and reel

Some surf anglers put 4 pvc pipes on a board, attach it to the front of their truck. They cut an indentation at the top of each pipe so the reel can be secured with a bungee type tie down.

This is what I use. I can make a better video tomorrow if you are interested in it. It works well.

Great idea & construction with a quick release for storage or to take to the boat.
It’s good that you mounted it on the drivers side for less chance for pilferage at curbside parking.
