Papacon 357. Are you the same one that tried that same approach with me last summer about us catchin lots of stripers. If so, KNOCK IT OFF ! You have NO clue what you're talikn about.
Catchin 122 fish in one day and releasing 122 fish doesn't hurt the fish population anymore than you sittin on your @$$ on your couch bitchin about us catchin fish and releasing them.
What's your problem anyway?
If you have a problem with our sport then stay the #e!! off our FISHIN site and go somewhere else to stir up trouble.
I'm surprised they even allow you to live in Texas to begin with. When I lived there I never knew anybody like you that lived there then. Bet you don't confront people face to face there in Texas about this.
And most of the people I know now it would not be advisable for you to try it face to face here either.

Wow Saw I've never seen you with your dander up. Puts me in mind of an old tom cat that I had and caught its tail under the rocker on the focking chair. That cat spit and hissed and squalled at that rocking chair. I swear if that cat had a match it would have burnt that chair up.

Dude come out of your cave OK this is fishing it’s fishing at its best what is wrong with you ? If you don’t want to spend your hard earned money on a fishfinder that’s OK by you but don’t blast me for buying one

Any fishermen out there will admit that technology (fish finders such as the Vexilar, Garmin Livescope, fish finder with sidescan and GPS plotting) is making it exponentially easier to catch fish. A lot of it takes the patience and skill out of the sport. Anglers can boost their harvest rates with ease, because a screen showed them where the fish was in the water column.

Despite this, people love the technology, and it just seems to be getting better every day. I don't blame people who use the ultra high tech fish finders, because if I could afford one I would probably buy it. I am just worried the fish won't be able to keep up with new and powerful tools available to the public.

Does anyone agree with me? Not trying to have a "boomer mentality" per say, I just think it's a valid concern.

I agree but do not deny anyone using modern technology. Me I grab probably the one of the best rod and reel combos money can buy, a pair of waders, boat with depth finder or a kayak and figure things out from there. A life time of experience helps more than any new gadget. I believe in the experience, memories and having fun.

I have to chuckle at this discussion as well. Everyone here (and I believe most do) should know that technology is not responsible for killing fishing; fishermen are. Technology brings tools and constantly changes and improves the tools. We could go back and fish like it was done in the 1600s, but we wouldn't enjoy that very much.

If we all fish responsibly the fish populations should do OK.

Catching and releasing 100 fish day after will hurt the population...but if we understand our impact on the population, it shouldn't matter what tools we use.

I don’t know about last summer, but reread your post and see if release was mentioned. I don’t think so, but it may have been an honest oversight. It just pisses me off when people abuse our gifts. Like the two who caught AND kept 105 white bass when the limit was 25. By the way as an American I can live in any state I damn well choose, and I’ll be just as adamant about their wildlife. I don’t think that would perturb you. If I’m wrong about that—-Tough Tittie.

I honestly believe that he was releasing the fish, if you don't then I guess it's a difference of opinion.
I too would not condone catchin and KEEPIN that many fish.
I guess since I have been accused of hurting the fisheries by catching 75 stripers in one day and it was because of people like me that there was so many harsh regulations. However it was made clear that we didn't keep any, didn't seem to matter to the guy that reamed me a new one. Plus there were 3 of us fishin also.
I really try not to lose my cool like that and I'm sure it wasn't you that went off on me last summer. Sorry.
That's just how I feel about some guys on here that start spoutin off about how bad we're hurtin the fisheries by goin fishin and actually catchin fish even though we're releasing most all of them.

Yes, I have always said getting a new rod and reel each year makes fishing more fun and even trying new technologies.

New lures, new boat, new kayak new waders, new depth finder, new underwater camera, when it's new you just gotta try it out. That's what we love about the sport of fishing. RIGHT?

Hell, I’m a guy with a lifetime of experience who has nice new gadgets and it’s still not a given that I’ll be successful.
Some folks think you just turn on your depth finder , see fish and proceed to catch them. That’s not how it works
I’m working on my third season marking waypoints on my local lake
I have about 160 potential spots. This took time. Of these , I’d guess 140 of them no else knows about.
One spot is a single tree trunk , about the size of my forearm in 28 ft of water. Probly 1/4 mile off shore . Absolutely nothing else around it for hundreds of yards . At certain times , This thing is a crappie magnet. Most always fish there, at times incredible schools bunch up there. I can feel my lure bouncing off them on the drop.
This spot has accounted for quite a few double limits on an otherwise tough day . Without my Garmin , I would have never found this spot and it would be impossible to go back to

Just as important , the sonar units let you know where fish ARENT.
No fish, don’t waste time there.

Us old guys seem to complain about all the technology in life today because we're too tired and worn out to learn how to use it all. I still use my I phone to make telephone calls and take pictures. The nice thing about fishing equipment, we have a choice whether to use it or not. I find that the fish are still a little smarter then I am. It is certainly easier to spot the fish but I still have to find a way to make them bite. I am a little concerned about some of the new sound equipment that attracts the fish, it works and that may give us an advantage for catching, but the fish still have to take the bait. Its just life guys and we just have to roll with it.

Last time i went striper fishing with two friends we also caught n released alot. Schools of small ones would come in n hit everything we threw. Took time to get to the keepers. I definitely have no luv for people that don't size n limit rules. Productive n safe season to everone. If you can TAKE A KID. THEY ARE THE FUTURE OF THIS SPORT

I agree with that any help a guy can get. It will all add to the experience, memories and fun. Good luck to all fishermen, and most of all keep it fun.

I know what you mean Jake. The whole family always wants the new phones. Mine is old like me. A little old but still usable LOL. I do like my depth finder. The depth alarm is big help in dirty water. My grandson likes to mess with it. Have a good day
