I'm heading out to chase Steelhead for the first time this weekend, and am going in relatively blind. Any advice for a beginner from some of the more seasoned Steelheaders in the group?

Note- this is Great Lakes Steelhead, not Pacific. Not sure how different/similar the two pursuits are

I use 10-12’ of 1x to an egg pattern(size 6-8 hook) with 18-24” 2 or 3x to a size 8-12 bead head nymph. All this is under a bobber (a corker pegged with a toothpick) at the top of my tapered tippet. Put a couple BB weights 18-24” above the egg. Make sure you’re bouncing off the bottom. I like my 7 weight 12’6” switch rod to manipulate my lures. I’ve also had success with egg sucking leeches with a trailer as well. If Spey fishing, purple, black, blue and pink our typical colors. Good luck and please post some pictures

Steelhead like to lay under structure, in deeper runs, along a hard to reach bank, in calmer water along the edges.and close to the bottom where the water is slower than the surface. At the lower end of pools where the water slows a bit.
