Just got notice that Sailcats and Hardheads are being added to Big Fish. I guess it won't be long till Fl has a creel and slot size on our cat fish.

Looks like it's a fishing tournament called Reel Big Fish. You take a picture of your fish over a measuring devise and send it in. You receive a t shirt, tumbler and other prises. We had a similar one here and I enjoyed it. They put the sail cat in it so more inshore anglers have a chance to participate.

I do not know if Sail Cats are tasty but here in Virginia, we enjoy having Croakers for dinner. There are no limits on them yet but who knows, it may be coming.

You can take my word on it for what it's worth but Sail Cats are very good eating. Saltwater Hardhead Cats are good too, not as good as Sail Cats but good. I prefer Hardheads smoked but I will fry them.

Right on Fin, sail cats especially good grilled. Also have fried them. Lots of different seasonings and recipes to try online.

Sail cats ,yes if you can cope with the slime. Many have hit artificials as they feed in all levels of the water columnMud cats, no.

I understand that gaftopsail are rare in SC and are now a protected species as well as hardheads. A few years ago maybe 7 we on the gulf coast of Fl had a fish kill that killed a lot of hardheads but didn't affect the sailcats so much. Most recently the red tide didn't get the cat fish but it got a lot of mullet. The saltwater cats are doing well. I've caught more sailcats in the last year than any year in the past 10. I even caught my record sailcat early this year 19" of bull. He even made my drag squeal on a couple of its runs.
