Just purchased a 2016 NauticStar 20XS and am taking my first trip out Saturday morning. Going to head to Catalina island and hope to have live squid in the tanks. Looking for White SeaBass, yellowtail and if I'm lucky, a halibut. Can't wait....

Don’t forget to check ocean conditions with coast guard and your local marina staff. Have a backup plan if your motor quits. Have plenty of life jackets and a radio. Take photos of fish and send them in so we believe your lies :-)

You need either another motor or some of your buddies in a nearby boat or a really dependable radio to call for help to get you home when the motor with 250 hours dies.

I have two friends who are going to be out there, have a good radio and SeaTow. I should be good. Smart move to get a 2nd motor though...have to save up some cash for that... Good thing is the motors, with good maintenance are good for up to 2000 hours. Not too worried about it going out.

Seriously MJ. You need to go with some of your buddies that could tow you OR preferable get a kicker motor to get you back to a port if your main motor quits for some reason. Always better to be safe than sorry.
Not as mandatory on a lake or smaller water, but the open ocean, not a good idea. Good luck brother, and be careful.
