I had an 8th grade science project "to make soap". Used lye and Crisco in different portions. This was pre Google days. When cooled formed them into bars, then wrapped in aluminum foil. By the time to turn in my "project" .... all the foil wrappings had holes in them. Dangerous stuff in young hands.
Yes, if you were a farmer and had your own property, the depression wasn't as severe. You would probably find having enough cash to purchase those things you couldn't grow yourself a problem. There was a lot of barter and trading or exchange of things. I was born toward the tail end of it, so wasn't bothered. Just Sayin....RJS
Well, whether hard times, or good times, I believe that being self sufficient is the best course to take! However, this mostly has to come from your parents teaching you, and not a choice you make yourself. Just Sayin...RJS
