when you tell a lie... you have to remember which lie you told which person. so if you do the math, if you tell two lies you may need to remember 264 combinations. Just not worth the effort. tell the truth , it will never hurt you and you won't get a brain strain.

As my grandmother said, paraphrasing Mark Twain......
"Just always tell the truth, then you don't have to remember what you said or even who you said it to... it'll be the same, next time, as well."
She also offered up..." If you realize that you have faults, there's hope for you".

wow FF always thought that was from my grandfather. told me that when I was 5 and about to lie to him.

I grew up with my elders on both sides of the family and from rather diverse backgrounds, often quoting both Mark Twain and Will Rogers.... truly sage advice from two outstanding "philosophers of the day" regarding ethics.

And humor was often "the carrier", from both.
