Does anyone record their catches? I'm thinking of keeping some sort of journal of catches this year. In my mind I see an app that would gather time, GPS location and current weather...

I'm thinking of keeping some sort of journal of catches this year. In my mind I see an app that would gather time, GPS location and current weather information and I could enter the catch, lure used, etc. Is there anything like this?

Yes it’s called a smart phone, every fish I catch I take a photo witch shows the time and day I caught it on, there’s also a function that shows exactly where the photo was taken

I do of sorts....
I record on a spreadsheet ( I know there are apps for this but I like making things and doing it myself) each day, what lake, what town, how many hours on the water, how much time the big motor is on, how much time the trolling motor is on, who I was with, temp, barometer, sun/sky condition, time of day, water temp, depth, lures/bait used, wind direction.
Takes about 2 minutes total before during and after fishing.
Gives me something to do early in the mornings correlating weather conditions, water temp lures, fish caught etc to see what patterns emerge

I remember where I was fishing no matter what lake - my own little OCD world I guess

I keep a journal of my outings. I include catch, the weather, time of day, location, bait, boat or shore, and any other specific details.

I did when running a charter boat. Now I just punch a waypoint and fill in data later if I remember. Remembering is getting harder every trip.

OldBassGuy Loc: Temecula, CA

I keep a log of every fishing trip. It comes in very handy for when I decide to go fishing. Things I record:
Lake, who is with me, time started fishing, time of first fish, number of fish, largest fish and where it was caught.
Also, water temp and time leaving the lake. Takes about 3-4 min. At the end of the fishing season, I put them on a spread sheet. So when the new season starts, look at the log and decide where and when to go. Hope this helps.

There is an app for that, Fishbrain. I record my catches, locations and use it to find new spots or there is another, Fish Angler. Check em out!

I checked out both aps. They both seem like a lot of work setting them up. Guess I am just old school. When I get home from fishing, I jot down a few things and I am done. I know the younger generation would probably love these as they spend half their lives looking at their phone. Not for me.....too old. Would rather be fishing.

If you have a home computer, you can develop your own. Use a spreadsheet to create the categories you want to include and you are off and running.

I don't, do all my fishing on the Mississippi. Recording water temp, weather ect. might be all well and good but throw in the Corps of Engineers and you need 5 secretaries to keep track of it all. No man looks at the same river twice, you will not live long enough to see the same conditions repeat themselves as every day is a completely new game ! The only condition I have seen repeated ( in 65 years ) without fail is---------------- HAIL HURTS !

They are not hard to set up at all. Enter your information, your location and thats it. You will also see what lots of other around you are catching.

Pen and paper is good too, but this is more fun. I like pictures, especially fish pictures.

I have tried a lot of the apps and never got what I want from them. 2 years ago I started just taking pics of every fish I catch.(99% of my fishing is catch and release.) I record notes with relevant data about some of my catches. Some days I feel I'm wasting time doing this. BUT this winter with 0 degrees and lakes iced over, I have been able to relive last year and plan for the spring.
