Never fished in Maine and never fished for white perch. Yellow perch yes. Indiana and Michigan. Long time ago. Welcome to the stage I4f. Post some pictures please when you catch some and tell us where to go when we visit Maine?

I will do that Spirit. As far as I’m concerned white perch is a terrific eating fish. When I was a young boy - 65 years ago, I’m 72 now, my family used to rent a camp on Great Rast Lake in ME/NH. It’s a border lake. Every late afternoon we would go out in Pokie, a wooden rowboat, and fish for white perch. They come to the surface to feed every early evening. We used the catch a bunch of them and after cleaning had a wonderful fish fry. They were delicious but all around 1/2 pound. I understand that in Lake Winnapesauki n NH they are plentiful and grow up to 3 pounds. Since I’m relocating to Maine I would like to find a super WP fishing lake.

Yellow perch and walleye (they're related) are among the best eating fresh water fish I've ever tasted. Bluegill and crappie not far behind. I'm sure if the white ones are related to the yellow, then they are fine table fare. I note your location is all over the east coast. That's unusual. Most folks (old folks like us, I'm 73) start moving to warmer climes, not the opposite. What's up with that? Must be a story there.

I’m originally from NH. I relocated here. (FL) for a woman. Last September I got divorced and now I want to go back for good. I retired from the USPS in 2003..I swore I would never go through another NH winter. Now I can5 wait to get back to ice fishing and whatever e.se I can do outside in the weather. I dont like it down here. I stopped fishing pompano after a year down here. Didn’t really like the taste of it. I used to go up to Maine every every summer to run my concession business. It was my salvation and escape from the summer heat. Loki g forward to start fish8ng again up north.

White Perch are not a perch. More of a bass. They live in freshwater lakes but they also run in and out of the salt in coastal rivers. Great food fish. We always fished for them with a little spinner ahead of a nightcrawler.

Not related to yellow perch. They are related to Striped bass. They are very good eating and fight well for their size.

Yes they are the fresh and brackish cousins of the striped bass which I also enjoy eating. I usually time the da4k flesh from the fillets and use them for a super fish chowder. The white perch fillet I bread in flour with salt and pepper and pan fry in either Driscoll or a light butter. My mouth is watering. Lol

A fish with a lot of different names, one is 'white perch'. In Michigan, a white perch is a white crappie, and the black ones was racist, white ones.
