I’m looking into buying a better fishing rod. What is recommended?

St Croix is one of the best, I use them for most species.
I was asked to pick a 5 year award from the company I work for almost a year ago.I picked a Rod & Reel combo that was made by Abu Garcia, it's called a black Max(I believe). The Rod is thru blank, it's 7ft' & it has a 6 ball bearing spining reel. This set up cost a little under a bill & I use it for Crappie & 2-5lb fish. I have 100% flurocarbin 8lb test & I like it's smoothness & sensitivity & strength of the Rod itself. I have 2 ugly sticks, 1 ugly stick lite, a falcon 1 piece 7' with a Shimano Castiac with 10 lb Berkley Big Game(for spawning Bass, or top water Bass fishing. Every reel I own except for 2 is a Shimano, the other 2 are Abu Garcia spinning reels
I'm hooked on THE UGLY STICK,THAT'S THE ONLY ONE FOR ME or any Shakespeare product!

For the money go with an UglyStick. They are durable
For a few bucks more go with a St Croix.
Better quality and more sensitive
Their entry level series start at about a hundred bucks
They make some two piece rods which are great for a kayak
The ugly stick is much heavier an if you fish alot you will get tiref of holding it an casting.
I know u like them but the st. Croix is a by far better rod an if you try one you will then know that i am right. They are sensetive an you can feel the bite an catch more fish than with the ugly stick. Just saying.
I was told to look at it by an average everyday fisherman this way.
With the technology we have in today's world, Would you go play golf with a putter and a driver, even though it can be done. Or have an option of having the proper club for the distance. Full bag of iron's and drivers.
Catching fish requires more than just one style or type of pole. Use and buy what works for you, to be a successful angler.
My Dad always said a pole is what brooms are made out of. Rods are for mounting reels on.
Same I fish with two different ugly sticks an ultra light with a2000 shimono reel from my canoe or if I’m some where with a lot of grass or pads I’ll switch to the medium heavy with a 4000 shimono with 30to50 lb braided line. I’ve been fishing this gear for years and swear by it will even hold up to those nasty bow fin
NICE CATCH 👍 MUST HAVE BEEN COUGHT ON AN UGLY STICK!

I’m starting to get serious into fishing, and my current pole is wrecked. The most I’d like to spend is $60-70. If it helps I’m looking to catch bass from my kayak. What would your guys recommend?

Get a Berkeley Lightning Rod. 6’6” or 7’. That’s in your price range and for that price this is the best I have found. I have used them in a kayak many times.
Ugly stick I have had mine for over 20 years and it's still going strong.
Here is my 2 cents worth. Ugly Sticks are tough, reasonable feel and action and good prices. Unless they’ve changed, they also had a lifetime replacement guarantee. That said, I think that a reputable store with a good selection may find a rod for you that you like better but maybe not.
The advice about buying online is solid. I’ve checked three identical rods in a store and one was superior to the others. You just can’t tell until you take it fishing.
Good Luck
