Just sing this song the way you were taught to sing it in kindergarten - straight up, no styling "Sing it with the constant awareness that there are soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines watching you from bases and outposts all over the world. Don't make them cringe with your self-centered ego gratification. Sing it as if you are standing before a row of 96-year-old WWII vets wearing their Purple Hearts, Silver Stars, and flag pins on their cardigans and you want them to be proud of you for honoring them and the country they love - not because you want them to think you are a superstar musician. They could see that from your costume, makeup, and your entourage. Sing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' with the courtesy and humility that tells the audience that it is about America, not you. And please not everything needs to be spunked up! Weโ€™re getting a little weary of that. Francis Scott Key does not need any help." Semper Fi

And I agree!! Kandy

Have seen it too often how they think or try to outdo anyone else singing it, for me, I made a drink after the first half and didn't see the stupidity of these half time events. Totally agree with what you posted

I know America is supposed to be the land of the free and you have a right to be wrong but things are getting a lot ridicules'. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I love this country and wish those that don't respect it should leave it. The way things are going there's going to be a major uprising I'm afraid it's just things are being pushed too far and too fast. I hope I'm wrong because I really believe and love this country.

The best rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was by Whitney Houston at a super bowl. It was both powerful and moving.

The best I ever saw was by James Taylor. He accompanied himself with his guitar (NOT electric) and with his sweet voice he sang it straight up, just like it was written, no frills. As it should be. But that's my opinion, I sure don't want to pass a law saying everyone has to do it that way. Or what? Where is it you people want to live?

Speaking only for myself, with all its flaws, with all that was wrong, I want to live in the America I grew up in.

I agree completely, when she started to show off her "artistry" I turned the channel; I do that too when players kneel. To me it is disrespectful and raises my blood pressure. Everyone has a right to their opinion as long as it's on their own dime and in the proper forum. IMHO.
