Hi, I'm new to the area and I'm signed up to fish a BFL as a co-angler. How is the fishing and what do I need to know?

Thanks,
Tim

Not what you need to know, more about what we need to know. Like where is Lake Guntersville? In fact, where is Guntersville? About 30000 of us on here, and most of us have no idea. Help us out. We'll help you. Welcome to the stage. Post some photos please.

Hello TMak1: Welcome to the Fishing Forum. The previous post is corrrect. If you continue to fish, you will begin on a long odessy of a life time learning curve. None of us know it all, we are all pilgrims on a journey and are all climbing this learning curve. Much of what you learn will be self-taught!

There will be others who know more about Gunterville and how and what to do to catch fish there. Lacking that, you can go to a local bait shop at this lake and get all the informations needed. If you have tackle of any kind, start with that. Just Sayin...RJS

It would seem logical to ask this question of the person you'll be fishing with.

Lake Guntersville is one of the most popular lakes in the U.S. Just watched the Bassmaster classic on tv yesterday. To say most of the members don't know anything about where it is is pretty much ridicules'. My advice is go internet look up tournament info on Gunt. a nd there you will find more info that you can absorb. Depending on where you fish just about an y presentation works all dependent
on the time of year and weather. Most tournaments there need 25 plus pounds to come in the top ten and 30 pounds to win.

I'm sorry, I thought that anyone who bass fished would know where Lake Guntersville was. It's in Alabama. It always ranked in the top of the top 100 lakes in the country. Last year they held the Bassmaster Classic.

As I said, there's about 30000 of us on here and not all of us fish for bass. I for one do not. I fish for trout and surf perch and halibut on the California coast. If I asked "how's the fishing in Lake Almanor?" and captjohn asked me where the hell is lake almamor, I don't think that would be pretty much ridiculous. Scuse me captain, but how the hell do you learn anything if you don't ask questions? That right there is pretty much ridiculous.

Lake Guntersville Is in Alabama and is known for its big grass beds and great frog fishing.
Don’t know if they will be on frogs when you get there or not, but I would spool up with some 30lb braid and a stiiff 7’ casting rod and make sure you take some top water frogs sigh you.

Checking with who you will be fishing with. I could tell you where I would go but he might have other idea. Fishing the bridges in creeks and the main lake work well. Rattle traps (Blue Chrome) along with several crankbaits for different depths. I have wore them out with numbers and big fish. Thought I had won the tournament but everybody else wore them out also so don't get overly excited (get excited) about what you have caught till weigh-in and see what everyone else had in the bag. Guntersville can turn on and everybody is catching really good fish but she can be a bi__ch also. Just sayin. lol

I might add to color of rattletraps at this time of the year try the red and chartreuse I guess red in the spring is quite the attractant. although I've also caught the on the blue and chrome too especially when it's sunny.

The tournament is this Saturday. I heard the water temp was still in the 40's.

Thanks,
