I’m already scouting for white bass opportunity. I’d also like to have a chance at the crappie spawn. I bought a couple of $4 telescope crappie rods 1/2 price the other day and took it as a “sign”. :). When they spawn on one area lake if it’s on and your there I here there isn’t a better way to catch them than with a simple pole line.
I’m also heading to SPI aka South Padre Island in February and plan to fish there for anything! What will you be chasing the next few months?

KingfisherTexas: White bass are probably the easiest fish to catch, other than catfish.

For white bass, or sand bass, you just have to find were the shad are schooling, and yuou will find both white bass and stripers following. Winter and summer. In winter they will be deep, in the summer, they will be on the surface or near surface and often trive the shad to the surface and break the water feeding.

Often in the summer on Texoma we would not worry about catching them, but just how many did we want to clean! This usually happend around sun up for from 1/2 hour to an hour after sunrise. They can also be found by trolling.

Crappie are a different story. The best thing for them is to plant a Christmas tree, bait it, and then come back in a few weeks and fish with live minnows, or small jigs or spinner baits over your tree. Just Sayion...RJS
