You know that slowing down actually creates a bigger wake, right. When you're up on the step there's hardly any water displaced by the hull. When you slow down, and the hull sinks into the water,it plows water creating a much bigger wake. I see it every day when I'm out in my little 14ft aluminum boat. If you want to be courteous, just fly by as quickly as possible!

That is BS when flying buy keep you distance, or slow down early enough.

I sit in a little 14ft aluminum boat, and get passed by every type of boat on the lake. High powered Bassboats are the LEAST offensive wake throwing ones there. Wakesurfers are by far the worst. They actually have ballast tanks in the hull that fill with water to make the hull Squat even more than normal, so the Surfer behind them has a BIGGER wake to surf on!!!! Google Wakesurfing.

As I already stated when you see another vessel stationary on the water slow down before you get to them and move by at a slow speed and you won’t have a wake. I’ve been doing this for a long time and never have a problem when passing others

I get off on these things cooking by with about three feet of hull in the water, my wife was saying look at that jerk, he is going to go right by us, I was laughing and told her they have so little hull in the water they make a negligible wake like that.

I was fishing by myself years ago on Amador when one of them was coming right at me, went by me by maybe 50 feet, I was thinking I was going to go have a talk about courtesy at the launch ramp, when the wake got to me it was so negligible I figured what the heck, it was cool as all hell seeing a boat cook it up like that.

I get off on speed anyway, I had a guy offer to take me out on an ocean racer in the San Francisco bay when they have the big open class races while they were tuning up, a friend of mine knew the owner of Benihanna's restaurants. I had told him it was a dream of mine to see what 150mph felt like on one of those, he said let's go, I'll show you what 175 is all about if you are serious.

I still get a thrill out of thinking about that ride, he took me from the Sausalito yacht marina, outside the golden gate toward the Farallon Islands where the swells were right for opening that thing up. He looked at me and said we are at 125, are you okay, I said Fu%@ yeah... the sound and feel of that thing opening up from there gets me all charged up just thinking about it... one of my favorite experiences ever. My guess is we burned a grand or two in high octane racing fuel, the engines in that were like 2700hp each

My little Tracker Panfish 16 has a 9.9 hp motor and only runs about 8 mph. Yeah, I know that sux. The lake I fish has a 10 hp limit on it. That little boat makes a bigger wake than the Ranger 364V / GT-150 I had years ago. The little motor just can't get the boat on plane.

What prop do you have? My 16’ pontoon, 9.9hp, four stroke, injected has a 10” x 5” prop. Does almost 6mph. Not a problem. Just curious.

wd4ity and Jwid, you have me beat in the slow boats. I did not think that was possible. I thought my 12' Portabote with a 6 hp was slow at 10-11 mph. That is with my wife and I in it. Not even half fast. Still twice what I can do in the kayak.
We have those hot rod boats here at Havasu. One flipped last year at 110+. 300 hp are pikers around here.

That's what I told my wife I wanted for Christmas is a 30 foot tri-toon with twin 425 H.P. It does a cool 70 MPH

Wd4ity, if you already have the motor trimmed in all the way, try a small "Doel-Fin "type stabilizer. I've seen them do wonders bringing the bow down. That and put as much of your movable weight up front as possible. I've got my 14ft deep V running pretty flat even though I fish alone.

That's the problem, I can't get the bow to lift. The Panfish has two seats, I sit in the front and from there I operate the throttle and steer with the stick. I fish and drive from the same seat. I'm 6'2' and weight 250 pounds. All the dry storage is up front as well so most of the weight is up front. It does have a 12 gallon fuel tank and two batteries in the aft section but it doesn't have the weight of a bigger engine The boat is designed to use an engine of between 20 & 40 hp. I can't use that much hp on the lake I fish. Ten horse limit. It's slow but I don't have to worry about jet ski's on that lake either. It does seem rather slow when my last boat would run 60 mph. The wake is terrible from the front end plowing. I've tried trimming the motor up but it just doesn't do it. Now I'm on a diet trying to get more speed out of my boat. Mercury 9.9 Pro Kicker 4-stroke. Pitiful!.

Someone must have some deep pockets to afford a vessel that big. Must be nice to have the opportunity for such a wonderful Christmas present

OH, I thought you couldn't get the bow DOWN. That's usually the problem with underpowered boats. Move anything you can to the stern. You may want to try one of the high torque props they use when powering a sailboat. I'll bet a 9.9 2stroke would be faster.

The prop is a 10" diameter by 7" pitch four bladed model. Since the boat isn't equipped with a tachometer I don't know how many RPM it's turning so I don't know if I should try more or less pitch. I can get a smaller diameter prop as well. But trying different props can get expensive. The Mercury Pro Kicker is actually designed to be a "kicker" motor for a sailboat. I know a two stroke motor would do better. I have a lot of experience with two strokers being a motorcycle mechanic. These four stroke engines just don't have what it takes and I don't like 'em. They're twice the size, twice the weight, and half the horsepower. But, they are cleaner.

It means cheap and always looking for the something for nothing. If dad
would've had a quarter, he'd bury it inside a mayonnaise jar and end up losing it. We are small fish in this aquarium. People may have money but are uncertain of the items needed for their living, resulting in not using their money and thinking it's best in a savings account. That's not the best use;that's not how the bank uses cash. In today's economy, most are in the lower tier and end up paying five times more only because they don't understand that you must have the money necessary not to question the transactions. Similar to the Rolls Royces in southern California where the owner has two more inside the Malibu beach property in the garage. Not a financial burden there. Most of us have vastly differing views upon entering the church as is the case when the almighty $ gets used. Economic edumacation isn't in the world's PR, public relations story.

I've even looked to see if somebody (Crane, Edelbrock) made a high performance cam for the engine. I've rebuilt several two stroke outboard engines in the past and lots of motorcycle engines both two stroke and four stroke. I'm sure there's a way to get more power out of the little pusher but nobody makes high-po parts for them as far as I know.

The 12' Portabote is limited by engine weight not power. 70 lb/32kg max. A 2 stroke 8hp would work or a very light 9.9hp. There is a guy fishing out of Mexico that runs a 9.9 2 stroke and he goes out 30 miles. Insane but the boat rides very well. I got hit by a 3' wake from a tour boat and it rode it without a drop of water coming in. A lot of lakes and some states wont permit 2 strokes.

I am okay with the under 6mph. If wd4ity is getting 8mph that’s the difference. Mine is 10x5. 10hp limit, no jet ski, no shore line erosion, no sea walls. Lake is a mile long so two miles of shoreline.

Now for speed go to the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. All classes of boats have been making speed runs since 1988.

Shootout record for the lake is a turbine powered catamaran called Spirit of Qatar hit 244 mph.

Last I heard they had a 34’ pontoon with three 150hp doing 112mph.
