Got it. We have a septic system. Being a city boy most of my life, I'm learning. I never heard the term gray water before. Our washing machine is drained into our yard. It makes sense to use the water for plants. My water just muddies up my yard. I will have to drain it away from a deck, if I can ever get someone to build it.
We had a French drain installed around our house in Anderson (Redding) CA to remove rainwater from pooling up. The guy used his trencher after checking the grade, put in smaller rock to bed the tubing. He installed 6โ dia. perforated pipe around the house then solid tubing out to the trees and โY-edโ to trees ending with more perforated tubing.
He glued strips of white matting over the perforated holes to prevent soil from filling the pipe and back filled with gravel. The result did the trick, no pooling anywhere near the house even with heavy rains and the runoff irrigated many fruit & shade trees. I think it cost us about $1000 to $1500.
