Welcome to the stage J. Hardly ever any ice here. Make sure it’s safe before wandering out there with them kiddos. I crossed a creek once and fell through. Good thing I only went waste deep before getting out. Half mile back to the truck and was like froze to death. Sure ruined a good day out hunting!

Maybe not much help to you Jdage, but down here at the state line (STURGIS), a few people HAD been out, but the last couple of warm days took that away. Ice NOT safe here now, Saturday Jan 16.
SIL advised students least two people went through near Jackson, MI.
Grandson has been fishing near Evart, doesn’t see any danger, but not sure I trust his judgement.
Sure don’t want to see those Grandkids in danger, I appreciate your cautious approach.
Come to think of it, we ought to be able to get a DNR report.

Further - suggest you search “ice fishing conditions Clare county” and if you call or stop in at JAYS they probably have current local information.

A friend and I fished Crooked Lake and 8 Point Lake, Sunday the 10th and had no luck on Crooked in the morning hours, watched another guy catch two 20 inch pike on a tip up. In mid afternoon on 8 Point Lake we caught a lot of little perch and gills and a few keepers.

Last weeks Michigan out doors program had a segment of at least 40 guys fishing a lake near Mecosta.
