I Fished on and off as a teenager but starting to get back into it now. Dusted off the old rods and for the first time ever, got rid of the mono line and spooled up with 8lb braid and am trying to join to 8lb fluorocarbon leader. I've followed the step by step instructions on many videos for both the Double Uni knot and the FG knot to join the two lines but when I go to pull them tight the line just snaps at the knot. I've tried everything! Really just thinking about going back to crappy old mono at this point. If anyone can give me any sort help that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you don't wet the knot (any knot) before pulling it tight, you may be burning the line, thus weakening it and causing the knot to fail.

Welcome to the Forum, it could be what the previous post stated, most probable, or you could have bought some shi1 line. 8#s is not a lot, especially if you burn it.
How many turns are you doing on that uni knot? I have 12 lb braid and 20 lb fluro with 6 - 8 turns each. Never had a problem and like they say wet is good so spit on it.
I have purchased rotten line right off the shelf. Change brands and try again. Like everyone said lube line at leader knot and at bait/lure.
I use the double uni knot all the time and never had one break off or pull out. You may want to try the GT knot. It is easier to tie and is supposed to be the strongest knot to use for line to line tie off's.

8# test or 8# diameter , 8# test is way small diameter and easy to mess up when tying knots !
Sounds like you may have some bad flouro. Either that or you aren’t wetting the knot before cinching it.
With the FG , if you lose track of wraps it can “pinch” the flouro and cause it to weaken in the flouro
If it is happening on the uni to uni too , I’d say you have bad flouro

Try the alberto knot. It is fairly easy and holds well.

That and pull slowly and steadily...find a video where the guy lays the lines down so you can see what's happening. I use a barrel or nail knot too, the nail is easy with a tiny little pipe you can wrap the line around with the hole to run the one that goes through the loops. I got a tool that really makes it easy.
Hard to explain but there are good videos online, at times I find myself checking a half dozen or so before I find one that makes it seem easier. I recently found one where the guy did a really good job of showing which fingers to use that really helped.
When making that knot at home I use a bit of vegetable oil rather than spit.

Gee if you are going that far why not get some fish scent oil?
As was mentioned in another reply. That’s some small line you are working with. Do more turns with the braid. I mean like 12. The fg knot should have the leader of greater pound test than the braid There are a lot of videos out there. Check out Salt Strong as they do a lot of knot comparisons Good Luck
