Hi, Capt. I live in bonneau, just down from the landing. I just bought a new 20' bennington. As I am retired I have a lot of time to fish lake Moultre. I added a humminbird 8 helix and plan on scanning the lake with it. I am always looking for fishing buddies to go out and catch Cat's and Stripers. As I have not been on the lake in a long while, I do remember how crazy it got down at the dam at night, so I am disappointed we can no longer fish for stripers at night.

Believe me you are not the only one disappointed. I enjoyed that night fishing better than any fishing on the lake. Guess we are going to have wait now until Oct 1 to fish for them

Yes we can but I never did very good during the fall and winter at night. Now from about the 1st of May until the season closure June 15. We can have some good nights. Give me a call if you are going to be around the end of the week 352-277-6134. I'm coming to St. Stephens tomorrow and leaving on Sunday

I'm picking up the boat on Friday. Tony said it would be ready then. However, the forecast is not looking good for this weekend. I will be trying to organize the equipment I have from my old boat. Pole holders, etc. How far do you have to travel to get to the landing in Bonneau?

Typical political response; instead of reducing the limit from 30 to 15, 10 or 8, ban the fishing. People who likely never held a fishing rod in hand as an adult make the rules for those who fish.

Was the death rate on the throwbacks really that severe?

EDIT: I just re-read your post and my reply, and can now see why it did make sense to stop hot weather fishing for a cool water species. Landing them through a layer of water 10-15 degrees warmer would stress them and cause mortality.

I sometimes am prone to knee-jerk reactions to what I perceive as political insanity!

I’ve been thinking of how well chumming works for saltwater and want to try chumming for freshwater striped bass. Has anybody tried chumming in freshwater reservoirs or lakes? If so what species and how well did it work?

Oldest grandaughter helped with soybeans for catfish until Grandma caught her.

When I lived in Texas I made chum for catfish, but it attracted bass as well. It will draw those fish in like a shark to a bleeding swimmer. I used a 5 gallon bucket 3/4 full of "milo" a couple packets of yeast and fill with water till the grain is covered.... have to keep the grain covered with water. Set a lit on it.... not snapped on because of gasses it produces. Put it out in the Texas sun for 2 or 3 weeks. The worst smelling stuff I've ever smelled but the fish love it

Welcome to the board.

Sounds just like soybeans.

Query - some states allow fishing/ chumming with corn for trout, but
I've never tried it - some folk say it's
a good bait, but I've never had much luck with it, nor do I chum ! Has anyone done well with it ?

Read a story in a fishing magazine awhile back where a guy was saying that when he was a kid, his dad
would pick up some road-killed
critter (squirrel/woodchuck/possum), hang it from a low-hanging branch over a trout pool and let the maggots
accumulate and fall into the water -
he'd come back several days later
and that pool would be packed with trout !

Not sure if that could be considered chumming, as the bait was from a dead animal and just allowed to fall naturally into the water ! Before fishing, he would wear gloves to
pick it up and would bury the remains some distance downwind from the pool !

Sounds feasible enough - has anyone else ever 'chummed' that way ?
