Flounder lay on the bottom and are ambush predators. Bobbers will not work.

The best way to catch flounder is a top and bottom rig, use minnows and squid strips for bait on each hook. Use braid line and just enough weight to keep it bouncing off the bottom as you drift. Most of the flounder have left the back bays and are out front on the reefs and wrecks. Good luck!

I have spent many hours fishing for flounder in the back waters and intracoastal waterway in lower NC. The most productive type of flounder fishing in this area is to fish a live minnow with a Carolina rig. Patience is the key word. When you feel the flounder tapping your line, give him time to get the minnow in his mouth. Now if the flounder starts to run with your minnow set the hook. Unfortunately that doesn't happen much. I have waited 6-8 minutes. Be sure you have a large net. There is nothing more heartbreaking than to get the flounder to the boat or water's edge and have him flop off. I'm speaking from experience. š

The advice Tman gave you is sound. Flounder bite two ways. You either get a hard strike and it'll run with the bait but more often than not they mouth the bait. I've learned to give line when I think I have a fish biting. That gives them time to eat the minnow. In the old days we thought the fish were scaling the minnow before eating it. Mike

When I feel some added weight on the line I just drop back line for about ten seconds and when the line becomes taunt again set the hook.

I know 2 friends that fish for flounder the way you are describing and they do very well. I've tried it a few times but it just wasn't my thing. As mentioned many times in this Forum, do what you enjoy.

i'm 62 and I tried this for catching small blues first and started to get flounder so I found a way to catch them by chance it does work you just have to work for them by trying different spots
