I’ve been thinking of how well chumming works for saltwater and want to try chumming for freshwater striped bass. Has anybody tried chumming in freshwater reservoirs or lakes? If so what species and how well did it work?
Soak soybeans for a few days for catfish.
If your state allows chumming.
Several videos on u-tube.
It has been legal to chum for Strippers at Lake Powel and Lake Mead for years now. Most people use chopped up Anchovy to chum, and an Anchovy with the head cut off for bait.
I night fish for stripers. We use frozen anchovies for bait. We always cut off head and chum with that. Works best if you can find fish first. Keeps them around boat longer chumming. Also can attract a few cats
They will aslo hit chicken livers.

Do you use lights when you night fish? I’ve read articles where people have great success with lights and I’ve read they are too spooked from lights.
My cousin is the only person I know that has caught one on chicken livers. So it does work some times. Lol
Find fresh ones that have not been frozen and thawed GOD only knows how many times before they become mush.
People always look at me funny when I have a dozen chickens in a cage on board!
You can always eat the eggs.
LOL
better than crow.
Yes except perhaps of a full moon. I have a green led submersible that we drop down anywhere from 6 to 10 feet. Baitfish will be attracted by light which brings in stripers. Smaller fish come first and are higher in water. We live in central AZ and fish lake pleasant this way.
We use herring, shad and menhenden for chum on the Santee-Cooper lakes in SC. Up until just a few yrs ago we ran lights to Striper fish at night. The fishing was awesome but now SC has made it illegal to Striper fish at night on those lakes

Out of curiosity, do you know why they made the night fishing illegal?
The reason it was made illegal was during the hotter months is when we fished at night for them. The hot water was putting a lot of stress on the fish. Thousands of small stripers were being killed to catch a limit of stripers. Most nights it would take catching 100+ fish to get a 30 fish limit. You put about 50 boats a night during that a lot of fish didn't survive. You could go on the lake the next morning and it would look like a big fish kill with stripers floating everywhere so to protect these fish they decided to stop Striper fishing at night. This year they have even stopped all Striper fishing doing the hot months

Hi, Capt. I live in bonneau, just down from the landing. I just bought a new 20' bennington. As I am retired I have a lot of time to fish lake Moultre. I added a humminbird 8 helix and plan on scanning the lake with it. I am always looking for fishing buddies to go out and catch Cat's and Stripers. As I have not been on the lake in a long while, I do remember how crazy it got down at the dam at night, so I am disappointed we can no longer fish for stripers at night.
