Does anyone fish with a Shimano Curado DC baitcaster reel, CUDC 150 XG?

I have seen a promotion were the guy cast a practice plug over 100 yards wihtout once putting his thumb on the spool!

Apparently, this Shimano reel had a small computer chip to control the spool. It is expensive but I am curious.

Yes I have one on a St Croix mojo bass rod . It does not stop back lashes , But it greatly reduces them . I've run 12 lb mono and 20 lb braid on it . depending on the size of your lure and casting ability you can get about 8 or 10 yards more distance with braid . I have several Robert. I love mine. There great for casting light lures into the wind and also great for skipping docks. But you can bird nest them just like other bait casters. I don't think anything will take the place of your thumb. When set up properly you can cast a country mile. Not to mention they sound really cool.

just finished reading all of your question , it didn't show up on the screen at first ! I have not been able to get 100 yards yet , but i'am still hoping may be if the wind was right . my rod is a 7.5 St Croix mojo MH MF . With a med . action and mod. tip you could a little more distance I don't know . May be some one can answer that one . RB

Not me Ben,I thought about it but went with a Lew's instead. Spirit, on the other hand, bought a SLX DC last year, I think he only tried it a couple times. I decided to wait till the next generation comes along.

I’m not in the market for a new reel , but if I was , I’d be hesitant .
Don’t get me wrong , I love the technology that’s being built into today’s high end reels , but a microprocessor ? I’m afraid it’s just something else to go wrong that I can’t fix.

I have a bunch of CU 200 BS and CU BSF reels that I bought back in the 90's when they were less than a $100. They have served me well over the years. I can't say that I can cast a 100 yards, but I seldom have found the need too. The cast control and weights have worked well over the years. The main issue I have had is when I changed lures and did not adjust to allow for the differences in the lures. Otherwise all I have to do is use the thumb to stop the reel when the lure hits the water. And use common sense when casting into the wind; especially with big spinnerbaits and light lures.

As far as the new technology with computerized reels, I will wait to see how successful they are. Just like buying a truck, don't buy a new, new model ; only after the bugs have been worked out.

I have the 150 I purchased in july and I love it. The test you are referring to is with a one ounce practice plug. I really like the 4 settings but it is easy to setup ' just follow the instructions as it adjust differently that a regular bait caster reel.

Kiddcan: Thanks for your update. I am old, crippled and stingey, so buying a reel like this would be a real stretch for me. I no longer fish that much, only to take my great nephew, who really loves to fish and I get almost as much thrill at him getting a thrill. He has been with us for a couple years as a foster child, and has some serious baggage, but when fishing, he listens, obeys, and is a real champ when he is fishing. We'd adopt him if we were not over the age limit. Just Sayin...RJS

I know the feeling RJS. Will be 69 come July. The curdo150 has 4 settings. The 4 settings are 1for a windlass day , 2 is for braid, 3 is for mono and Flo-carbon and 4 is for skipping baits under docks and tree's. I used 2 and 4 settings and they have reduced my backlash's to almost zero. When I do get one it's my doing, not the 150.

I just bought the Curado DC this fall. Casts further than anything I have. Backlash is minimal. Absolutely easier to to clear than backlashes on other reels. The DC technology is the same on the Curado DC and the SLX DC. There is a 5th generation DC. Cost is double that of the Cuado at $500. I expect as with most technology the price will drop. Long cast are a real thing, but ease of just casting left, right, quickly when you see something without much of a chance of backlash is impressive. All of the backlash issues for me have been going for max distance. 3/4 ounce kastmaster is out of sight. Literally my eyes can’t see it until it splashes down.
