During this season of continued quarantine, my wife and I watch at least one movie every night and last night we watched “It Is as Good as It Gets!”

Just in case you’ve never seen the movie, Jack Nicholson is a crusty psychopath who every morning eats at the same café and must have everything the same. He is always quite nasty and insulting to everyone.

In a later scene he tries to walk in and see his psychiatrist without an appointment and the doctor refuses to see him without an appointment. So, walking out, he pauses and looks around the waiting room and says to the crowd of patients, “What if this is as good as it gets?”

I thought his line was quite funny, and then I began to think, what if 2020 was as good as it gets? Is there hope for anything better? What should we expect?

No, things are looking up. I just got a call from my doctor to schedule my Covid-19 shot. Things appear to be changing, despite some random and confusing news on the political front. I am uncomfortable with things as they stand. Hopefully, as time passes things will begin to smooth out and calm down this new year. I will continue to pray for our Country’s leadership, regardless of party. Just Sayin…RJS

when we are 3 miles offshore fishing........I really don't care about all the dumb city people. I think mother nature is "thinning the herd" of those ?humans? who are destroying her. Old saying......"Don't mess with Mother Nature".

Know what you been, we've been dealt a whammy and time will tell if we eventually get out of it. As for the leaders who were elected, I pity the way the countries heading, time for a clean out in Congress, too many career politicians.

I am like you Robert. I'm hoping also for things to smooth out as this year progresses.
My wife, daughter and I are just coming to the end of a 14 day quarantine after testing positive for the covid. Luckily we had mild flu like symptoms and nothing major in the breathing and sickness part that some have. We are also waiting for word to take the vaccine. Hopefully soon.
I have had our countrys leadership in my prayers now for several months now to come together and work together for betterment of this fine country. I'll continue the prayers.

One of my favorite movies. I am a Nicholson fan. The history of our planet and the way people view the time they are living is very interesting. Every generation, regardless of the country or previous history, thinks whatever is going on at that time is the worst time that has ever occurred. Things are falling apart, the next generation is a mess that doesn't get it, and their/our country is headed for Armageddon.

In reality, if this is as "good as it gets," most of us would adjust(some wouldn't), and live our lives to the best of our ability and move forward. In the history of the U.S. alone, people have moved on from two world wars, a depression, recessions and a variety of other events. Unfortunately, people get sick and die from a variety of causes. The world continues to turn.

Nothing wrong with being optimistic. Either way, things will go on as they have in the past.

After 72, almost 73 years, I know better than that. If this is as good as it gets then enjoy it, because it can for sure get a whole lot worse. As we used to say - what do want, egg in your beer?
