Like I said, I want a rod to use for fishing top water frogs, I have a spool of 20lb mono that I’d like to use for it, but some websites say I should use 50-60lb braid, I’d like to use the line that I already have, and a few people have said that 20lb mono is enough, so I’d like to know any advice I could get.

If your gonna get a rod strictly for frogging, you need heavy braid.

65# power pro is $13 at any walmart. Now your frogging rod can also double as a punching setup.

I would never use mono on a frog rod for the stretch alone. You'll need to make hard hooksets in hevy vegetation, sometimes from a long distance which are all reason enough to use braid. Also, 20 pound test might not even be strong enough with all the slop and vegetation a bass can bury itself in while frog fishing.

Who ever gave you the advise to use 20# mono doesn't know what they are talking about. First of all 20#mono has a big diameter to it and you will not get the distance you sometimes need #2 mono stretches' as much as 45% saw a seminar where Jimmy Houston cast a spinner bait to a persons pocket about 70 feet away and told the person to hold the spinnerbait between his thumb and index finger. Jimmy took up all the slack in the line and made a viscous hook set stepping back about two feet and the person holding the spinnerbait was able to keep holding it with very little effort. You can't have that much stretch and get a hook set. Even if you were able to get a hook set chances of bringing in any fish of even moderate size would be slim at best. Depending on how thick the vegetation is I would recommend Power Pro Slick or Quatro in either 40 up to 65# with this choice you will get casting distance as well as a great hook set plus it will last several seasons not like the mono. Spend wisely and you will be much more satisfied. Hope this advise helps you succeed.
The rod does not matter so long as it is long. Most important is to hold the fly about 4 to six inches in front of the frog so he can reach it. It is best to approach from the back of the frog if possible.
as far as rods what ever length you are comfortable with I'm 5'11" and I choose a 7'6" model the longer the rod the more distance you will get You want a either Med Heavy or HEAVY rod with a very fast tip. This will allow you a good hook set but still have a little give for the fight of the fish. I like the Bass Pro rods I feel you get the most for your money The carbon lite or Jonny Morris is best. Good lock out there.

When fishing on top of heavy cover with plastic frogs the fish cant see the line, therefore I dont mess around-I use 90# braid. I can apply all the pressure on the fish without worry. Why not? This way if there is limbs and brush in the cover you can bring the fish out in most cases. Mono of any size stretches way to much! Mono has no business on a frogging rig.
Medium heavy rod at the lightest. High speed reel to take up line in a hurry. Your not going to be pulling the Bass out with the reel, just the rod so need to take up line fast. For line-Braid,Braid,Braid.
