Got a new garmin striker plus 5cv from Santa (aka my wife) and can't wait to get it on the boat for spring. Anyone know much about them?

How is the contour mapping and do you know if it loses the map when it is disconnected from the boat at the end of the day.

I rely on my echomap unit on the console for all my mapping needs, And have the striker unit plugged in to my trolling motor transducer. so I can’t comment on the striker maps.
The echomap contours are very good.
I have mine configured so it automatically powers on when I turn on boat master power.
Turning off master power is just like disconnecting power so I’d have to say yours won’t lose data.

One piece of advice. If you have a trolling motor , route the depth finder wires as far away from the trolling motor wires as possible. Also if possible, connect depth finder to a separate battery from the depth finder.

If not you will pick up a lot of electronic noise when the TM is running . I finally was able to eliminate this by connecting to TM transducer , installing electronic Chokes to transducer cable and reducing gain on the depth finder.

Thanks for advice. I'll be mounting mine on the transom since its the best one I have so maybe will not get all the interference. If I like the garmin types may upgrade to 7" down the road

Frequency is everything. The length of the wires as well as if the intersect. They basically become Antenna. Chokes will help. Choke stops noise effectively. Another way to avoid interference is using coaxial cable for everything. It will block the interference.

I use the Striker Plus 4CV on my kayak. It’s a good fish finder.

I have a striker 4. No you won’t loose any data. You can order an extra 12v power cable to review at home if you want.
