I wish they would change it also but I think F&G is against it because licenses are color coded for the year they were brought in. So if you are in a boat or across the stream a game warden just has to see what color your licenses is to see if you are up to date. Only thing I could figure.

I thought that might be the situation as well. But this years (2020) is the same color as last years(2019). I asked the license agent when I bought my wife's and my license about the same color. He said that the original plan was to change colors annually, but they sold so few 2019 licenses they had so much orange paper left over they just used the same color. So now the boat to boat advantage of the annual color change is nonexistent. Most of the wardens I encounter still want to see the actual license. With all the additional stamps etc. (2 rod stamp, sturgeon report cards) they can't see that boat to boat and still need to check it closely.
I may sound like a broken record here, but this just shows even more evidence of a real problem with dropping license sales. Fishing is just not as popular as it was 30 years ago. In my 23 years as charter Captain on S.F. bay the party boat fleet (larger boats up to 40 capacity) has reduced by at least a third. The 6-pack boats are down by at least half as well. I am sure the COVID restrictions will put even more out of business. I put this right on F&G, If they were doing their job and the fisheries were in good shape we would have more people fishing. F&G's accepting excuses instead of results have effected many sport fishing related livelihoods and careers.

My 2020 fishin license was a different color than 2019. 19 was orange and 20 was green. The huntin license color went from orange to a pearl same as the 21 fishin license.

Thats interesting because my 2020 license is orange. So saw1 in the past have your disabled vet licenses been the same color as the regular full price one?

As far as I know they are. IDK. Since I don't have access to the regular license color.
What color is your new 21 fishin license? Mine is kinda pearl colored.

I worked my entire life working on creating manuals, implementing procedures, work instructions, revisions and amendments for companies. The Fish and Game licensing issue resolution is not as complicated as they make it. Just 1.PLAN: establish the objectives, 2. DO: Implement the procedures 3. CHECK: Monitor, measure and report results 4. ACT: Take action for continual improvement. Their F & G problems seem to be #3 & #4. now the easiest way to find the problem is by using the 5 WHY's approach . 1st why, Why do we have a licensing problem? 2nd why depends on the first reply and follow the sequence of why's by the time you get to the fifth why you'll your answer. Now that you have your answer, implement a corrective action with a completion date. The problem that I found in this type of problem resolution were the dinosaurs who have established themselves in these civil service jobs and refuse to adapt to the present existing conditions. What I always heard from these time card and benefit bandits was "that is the way we have always done it" or "it's not that easy". In the meantime, they lose money and they create pissed off customers. It is really not that complicated they just need bigger weights in their scrotums.

Another problem with dropping sales here in Calif. is the licenses fee is so high. Plus the sign of the times, not sure about fishing but sport hunting has real drop off across the whole nation. Not all but I feel for the most part the younger people are just not into hunting and fishing like us old farts were and are.

Easy pull... I'm not cool with the race card getting thrown into this discussion. Every man has a right to his opinion but in my experience my ethnicity has had nothing to do with how the warden behaved.

I was just wondering how many fishermen get checked for licenses? I stay legal and have a license in Michigan Wisconsin Minnesota Montana Yukon territory Alaska in one year and only was asked for it in my home state of Minnesota and fly fishing in Montana. Never saw a warden anywhere else.

I’m 68 years old, the last time I was checked I was 15 years old and didn’t need one yet!

I thought that was what he meant at first too. But I think he meant at the time he was 15 and did not need a license yet.

I know. The way he stated it, it was like he was sayin that it was a waste of money buyin a license for the last 53 years cause he's never been checked for a license since he was 15.
